South Korea formally joins APEC cross-border data rules

South Korea has decided to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation's Cross-Border Privacy Rules, which set voluntary but enforceable standards for protecting data among the 21-nation economic regional group.

The Ministry of Interior announced that South Korea will become the fifth APEC economy to join the CBPR system, according to the Korea Communications Commission on Monday.
