Senate Judiciary panel clears bill on sanctions for election interference

The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved legislation that would sanction foreign nationals who interfere in U.S. elections, including cyber hacking, with Democrats on the committee calling for quick final passage of the measure.

The Defending Elections Against Trolls from Enemy Regimes Act, or the DETER Act -- sponsored by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) -- was approved by the committee during a Thursday markup that included votes on a number of judicial nominees.
