Senate backs repeal of FCC data privacy rules

The Senate yesterday approved by a party-line 50-48 vote overturning the Federal Communications Commission's recently adopted data privacy and security rules for broadband internet providers.

The Senate vote, under the Congressional Review Act, sends the issue to the House, where a companion proposal has been offered by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). Final passage for repeal of the FCC rules is required by mid-May under the Congressional Review Act.
