North Korean hackers attempt spear phishing email attacks on U.S. electric companies

Hackers likely affiliated with the North Korean government attempted to send spear phishing emails to U.S. electric companies at the end of September, according to a FireEye report released this week.

The emails were detected and halted by FireEye cyber defenses, with FireEye describing the attempted attacks as “early-stage reconnaissance” and “not necessarily indicative of an imminent, disruptive cyber attack” in a blog post about the incident.
