NIST issues draft cyber guide for medical infusion pumps

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has released for public comment draft guidance on protecting medical devices that deliver fluids and medications to patients – infusion pumps – from cyber attacks.

“Connecting devices to point-of-care medication systems and electronic health records can improve health care delivery processes, however, increasing connectivity capabilities also creates cybersecurity risks,” states the guidance document, “Securing Wireless Infusion Pumps in Healthcare Delivery Organizations,” released Monday.
