U.S. Chamber adopts encryption policy that backs study commission legislation

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has adopted a data encryption policy that seeks to strike a balance between the needs of law enforcement and industry's opposition to mandates,while backing legislation that calls for a study commission on the privacy and security objectives of a national policy, according to sources.

The business group's endorsement of legislation could help break a political standoff in Congress, which is expected to take up the issue again early next year. The encryption debate has stalled...
