Trump cybersecurity strategy signals greater military role in protecting private industries

President-elect Trump appears likely to assign a more active role for the Pentagon in protecting critical industries, such as power plants and chemical facilities, in an apparent response to longstanding industry concerns about defending against cyber attacks by nation-state aggressors.

The move could also signal a departure from the Obama administration's strategy of relying on the Department of Homeland Security, and civilian leadership, in directing the government's collaborative efforts with industry in planning and responding to cyber threats.
