Trans-Pacific trade pact unlikely to influence U.S. encryption debate

The recently negotiated Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact would appear to prohibit governments from mandating "back doors" into encrypted technology products, but this may have little impact on the cybersecurity policy debate in the United States, where regulations or legislation on encryption are unlikely.

The possibility that terrorists used encrypted devices to communicate among themselves in advance of the Paris attacks thrust encryption policy into the spotlight on Capitol Hill.
