Telecom firms press FCC for 'reasonable' flexibility in scope, data protected by privacy rules

Large and small internet service providers have met with Federal Communications Commission staff to urge flexibility for the type of personal data and the size of companies governed by its upcoming privacy rules.

That flexibility should align with the enforcement-focused approach to consumer privacy followed by the Federal Trade Commission, according to some of these business groups -- an argument that industry officials have been making since the FCC rules were proposed months ago.
