Telecom executive warns presidential cybersecurity commission on 'regulatory creep'

The presidential Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity should consider streamlining and consolidating government initiatives on securing data and networks, according to a telecommunications executive, who also warns of “regulatory creep” that could undermine public-private partnerships on cybersecurity.

“The inherently backward-looking nature of regulation is ill-suited for the challenges of cybersecurity,” Chris Boyer, assistant vice president for global public policy at AT&T, told the commission in written testimony submitted last week at a public hearing in Houston, TX.
