Coast Guard maritime 'profile’ aimed at setting minimum cyber standards

GAITHERSBURG, MD. A new “profile” mapping the federal framework of cybersecurity standards to the maritime sector is intended to establish a baseline for what the Coast Guard expects from industry on cyber protections, a Coast Guard official said today.

The Coast Guard has moved aggressively to develop a cybersecurity strategy for its sector based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s framework, and gave a presentation today at the start of a two-day workshop here at NIST's headquarters.
