U.S., Japan Commit To Implement, Expand APEC Data Flow, Privacy Rules

The governments of the United States and Japan have refreshed their commitment to implement and expand Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum rules on data protection and privacy in order to enhance cross-border data flows and boost trade and commerce, according to an Oct. 19 Commerce Department press release.

The announcement comes following an Oct. 19 meeting between acting assistant Secretary of Commerce for industry and analysis Ted Dean and Secretary General Mari Sonoda of Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission.
