Tech community backs bill banning states, localities from mandating 'decryption'

The technology community is strongly backing new bipartisan legislation pre-empting states and localities from requiring tech companies to provide access to encrypted communications within their products and services, calling for a uniform national policy.

The bill was introduced this week by Reps. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) and Ted Lieu (D-CA), and cosponsored by Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-WA), and Mike Bishop (R-MI).
