Lawmakers urge HHS to develop ransomware-specific guidance

The Department of Health and Human Services should differentiate ransomware attacks from conventional hacking and develop guidance to address differences between traditional data breaches and ransomware, Reps. Will Hurd (R-TX) and Ted Lieu (D-CA) urge in a letter to HHS.

The letter, sent to HHS Deputy Director for Health Information Privacy Even McGowan on Monday, stresses the need to address ransomware specifically, citing the cyber attack method as one of the top three threats facing the health sector.
