FERC report probes types of cyber attacks requiring response, reporting

Greater clarity is needed on what types of electric-sector cyber incidents should trigger the execution of incident response plans and which incidents must be reported to grid regulators, according to a new Federal Energy Regulatory Commission report.

A joint review of grid restoration and recovery plans by FERC and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, the standards-setting body for the sector, finds that changes to reliability standards should be made to spell out the incidents industry stakeholders should respond...
