FDIC's IG investigates data breaches

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's inspector general told House lawmakers of an investigation into several data breaches at the federally chartered corporation that were recently reported to Congress and could lead to criminal charges.

The inspector general's office “is examining the FDIC's process for identifying and reporting major security incidents, as required by applicable federal law and related guidance,” according to FDIC IG Fred Gibson, who testified on Thursday before the House Science oversight subcommittee.
